Network of experts and cooperation on sustainable tourism
MTI is a creative research, learning and knowledge community jointly run by the University of Lapland and the Lapland University of Applied Sciences. Our community includes more than 50 experts in tourism research, education and development and more than 700 students.
Our experts work in several university departments: in the Faculty of Social Sciences in the Tourism Research degree programme, in the Faculty of Arts in the fields of applied visual arts and design, in the Faculty of Education in environmental education, in the University of Applied Sciences in the tourism degree programme, and in the business, sports and natural resources degree programmes.
The Lapland University of Applied Sciences and the University of Lapland are committed to promoting sustainable tourism through a joint strategy. We actively participate in the development of the sector and are involved in creating different futures for tourism through new research openings.
The Institute is jointly managed by the Director of the tourism education division of the University of Applied Sciences and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University. The steering is supported by a management team consisting of the Director, the Dean, the Professor in charge of the degree programme in Tourism Studies, the Manager of the Tourism and Sports Instructor Degree Programmes, and student representatives from both universities.
